The Police Officers Federation of Minneapolis has always been a strong supporter of charitable organizations and has always actively supported such organizations. After concerns were expressed by members about these contributions, the Federation sought ways to continue to contribute charitable organizations without using member dues. In 2003, the Police Officers Federation of Minneapolis created a separate corporation to receive charitable donations and make contributions to charitable causes. Minneapolis Police Federation Charities, Inc., (“MPFC”) is a recognized 501(c)(3) charitable organization. As such, donations made to MPFC are deductible under federal and state tax laws.

The Minneapolis Police Federation Charities is governed by a board of directors that determines the nature of the organization’s fund-raising events and the organizations or causes to which the MPFC will contribute funds. The Police Officers Federation of Minneapolis established and maintains the Minneapolis Police Federation Charities, Inc., as a way to provide financial support to charitable organizations and causes in the Twin Cities and to demonstrate the commitment of the Federation and its members to the community they serve and protect.
Funds raised by the MPFC are donated to charitable organizations and causes in the Twin Cities. Past recipients of funds from the MPFC include the YMCA, Courage Center, Minnesota Special Olympics, Cystic Fibrosis Foundation, and Children’s Hospitals and Clinics of Minnesota.

Past fund-raising events have included raffling a limited edition police motorcycle, selling limited edition commemorative pistols, and selling 2008 Republican National Convention commemorative badges. In 2008, POFM changed their annual golf tournament to a charitable event to help raise funds for the MPFC. The golf tournament is currently the largest fundraising event for the MPFC. In addition to events such as these, the Minneapolis Police Federation Charities welcomes donations via mail and through the website.
